Meet the Animals

This is just a few of the many animals you can meet and interact with
at McFable Farm. Check out our gallery page for more!

Ethel

Ethel was one of the first chickens that came to the farm as a baby. She was raised in the basement along with 22 of her closest friends. She is a Frizzle which explains her crazy feathers. Ethel lays little brown egg every other day. She is a fast little thing but when you catch her she is more than happy to enjoy your attention and love.

Norman

Norman is a mini highland/panda cross bull. Norman was born March 8, 2023. We got him from a couple in Bedford as a bottle calf and they were super excited about Norman getting to spend time with kids and adults! He is super sweet and LOVES to “wrestle” with Terry. They get to rough housing in the lot and it gets quite FUNNY.

Mary Jane

I hung out at the Winterset Sale Barn all morning, had a friend spend all afternoon there waiting for this little potbelly pig to sell. She had been sold the week before but the peeps decided they didn’t want her and left her there. Her “Gotcha Day” is February 25, 2023 — guessed to be a year old then, and the poor girl needed a family so I gave her one. Terry was less than impressed when he had to carry her squealing butt to the truck. She is the most timid of the pigs, but if you can get her to let you brush her, she is putty in your hands –flops right to the ground and doesn’t move.

Russ

Russ is an Idaho Pasture pig who was born on December 5, 2022. This BIG baby was found in Farragut, Iowa at Smiley House Farm. I went down in my little silver car and a dog box and brought him home. He was just a small pig back then and now he is a BIG BOY! He loves to have his back scratched with a brush. You can always count on him to greet you at feeding time screaming at you and standing on the fence. Russ might also be the most destructive animal on the farm. Loves to figure out how to bust himself and the girls out of the pen. He is named after a very dear friend of ours — Russ Henry.

Petunia

Petunia is a small black Simmental heifer born January 27, 2023. She came to us from a farm near Panora. She was a 3-week premature calf that has ended up with some issues that she is always going to be small. Petunia definitely knows her name and will come pondering over to get her scratches.

Alove

Alove is a Kune Kune pig. I found her over by Atlantic and her birthday is February 13, 2023. She is a follower so if Russ is in trouble so is she. She also enjoys her scratches and will go anywhere for a banana chip. Pigs will do about anything for food. Not very vocal but is very curious about what you are doing if you are in their pen.
